Hi,

I have been testing out Joomla 3.0 admin from Joomlashine's online demo.

I find myself clicking too much when navigating the top menu.

A more efficient and elegant option will be for the menu items to show when I hover over the top menu. Much like those ajax based menus like Mega menu does.

I ask about this 'hover option' from some time, so +1.

We're using Bootstrap's approach to drop down menu, and we specifically support the notion that clicks are intentional and hovers can be accidental. Clicks aren't a bad thing, much line scrolling and white spaces aren't bad things.

Specifically I agree with this paragraph:
What it really boils down to is user intent. The purpose of a hover state is to indicate something is clickable (underlined text) or to provide some quick information (full URL in a tooltip). The purpose of a click is to actually do something, to take an explicit action. Opening a dropdown is an explicit action and should only happen on click.

Kyle, I don't say clicks are wrong in this place. But this should as module and be flexible. Even if you and me want to click on it someone maybe want to have it not fixed to top and works on hover like before.

You think it's a waste of time to create option? Or maybe this is Bootstrap problem?

Time is the key thing you mentioned. We're using all our free time in our lives just to try and get what we have stable. Once the base 3.0 features are stable I'm totally open to adding parameters and options for things like that

Ok, thats all what I want!
You know much better then me, how hard is that fight when you want to do some other view, function than a standard way.

I don't even talk about options in main template. I talk about letting doors open for custom templates that left as a toys on market. But real alternative for default template. AdminPrise ideas always where unaccessible for wider public because it was hard to brake the cage of default templates. Components implementations based on Khepri/Bluestork and so on.

Hi Kyle,

I understand your point. As long as it is consistent throughout the interface, I have no qualms about it. But what I fear is that it is not and it will created a disjointed experience. Furthermore, we are now so accustomed to hover dropdown menus like the mega-menus used by various joomla template developers.

Keep up the good work!

Just to fuel the discussion

Even this Joomla website has hover dropdowns.
I have yet to see a website (frontend) that doesn't show the dropdown menu on hover.

Many sites have stuff like config options or the 'more' stuff under a click dropdown, but that is not really the same as a full menu. That is usually the only item in the whole menu/bar with sub items.

Even ebay.com shows on hover
